Because I am more of a lifestyle & documentary photographer, I don't do many maternity sessions. It's not in my wheelhouse, but I am always up for a challenge! So, when Kristen reached out to me, I decided to go for it! I also had never done a session early in the AM either, so I knew this would be one for the books!

So, given that I am a tad emotional about this post, this will be pretty short and sweet. So, today is bittersweet in our household... especially for this gal right here. Today is my son's first day of school. He will be in pre-k, all day, at one of the best schools in our town. My husband and I are so incredibly fortunate to be able to fund our son's education in such a way that we know he is in the right place.

There's a lot of different moving parts, a lot of people to keep track of, places to be, etc. It can get incredibly overwhelming really quickly, and combined with a day that is already full of anxiousness... it can get ugly pretty fast. One of the things I do with all my bridal clients is work with them to create a timeline, which in my experience helps to soothe the minds of the couple... and that is why I am there!

If I have ever done a session for you, or you have seen me lurking around at a wedding or event (that sounds really creepy... oops!), you've probably seen me with a bag. As of late, my bag is a black backpack. It's quite handy and rugged looking, and I love it. I have been asked many times though, "do you really need that big of a bag? What is IN your camera bag?" So, today, we dive right in and bare it all for you to see what is in my bag! (And please excuse the disorganization!)

Needless to say, life happens, and I didn't get to go through nearly as thorough as I wanted. However, the point of the "Real Talk" blog on Thursdays is for my readers to learn a little more about ME, so here we GO!

I'm about to drop some truth bombs on y'all -- and I'm actually super nervous about it! I don't like to rock the boat or make anyone upset, but as a wedding photographer, I have to say this one thing: "going unplugged" for your wedding ceremony is one of the best decisions you could make for your wedding day.

That title sounds so ominous, right? My week alone. Well, truthfully, it was about the only title I could think of that truly fit (at the time) how I was feeling. You see, I truly did spend a week alone -- my husband and son took a trip to South Dakota to visit my in-laws. I was unable to go, so they took off without me. It was a really hard pill for me to swallow, and while I was absolutely dreading it in the days before they left, it actually turned out to be a really great experience for me.

Today I wanted to give a quick shout to Petal's Gift Shop, who I recently did a quick product shoot for! Kari, the store owner, and I met up at Forsyth Park in Forsyth, IL with a couple of her girls and we had a ton of fun with the shoot! Kari brought SO many great products to showcase, and I realized how badly I needed to add more dresses to my own wardrobe! :)
